Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, and raised in Denver, Colorado, Colin obtained his undergraduate degree in Psychology in 1994 and his master’s degree in Organizational Management in 2000. Beginning in 1997, he served in various roles in the fields of Human Services and Human Resources for the City and County of Denver. Colin has honed his skills in strategy planning, leadership development, people/HR operations (including talent acquisition, L&D, communications, DE&I), and executive coaching.
After years in public sector work, Colin moved into the private sector as a Sr. HR Business Partner, promoting to HR Management within his first year, and finally as Manager of Learning & Development by year three. During this time, he learned the rapidity of profit, and the critical nature of solid business practices in a highly competitive corporate environment. Responsible for providing HR leadership to eleven states and managing several high-level enterprise-wide projects, his understanding was deepened due to the impact that his involvement in this work had on the overall organization.
After serving for three years as Manager of Organizational Development and Risk for the city of Lakewood Colorado, Colin returned to the private sector to become a Regional HR Director for a thriving global media technology company where he then led People/HR operations through two acquisitions and massive organizational change. While supporting a Technology team which generated over $32M in annual revenue, Colin was able to deepen his understanding of the importance of an organization’s ability to “pivot” to optimize success at all levels. He leverages this experience today as part of his executive coaching practice as the founder and principal consultant of APEX Consulting Inc. which he began in 2005.
Over the past twenty-five plus years, Colin has provided multiple trainings and workshops to all organizational levels. Colin continues to impart his knowledge to students as an adjunct college/university educator has been doing so for nearly fifteen years in the areas of Organizational Leadership, Change Dynamics, and Professional Development. Colin is certified as a Global Career Development Facilitator, a Diversity Facilitator, and an Executive Coach.
All of Colin’s combined experiences have served to deepen his passion for the human experience as a whole and he knows that helping people grow will always be embedded in his DNA. On a personal note, Colin enjoys travel, sports, fitness, production, singing, and acting. An artist at heart, he loves the creative process and infuses it into most every aspect of his life. Colin is also a self-professed BBQ junkie who would put his “Que” up against anyone’s! Colin resides in Centennial, Colorado with his wife Crystal of 30 years who also happens to be his college sweetheart. Together they have three adult children and are currently enjoying life as “empty nesters”.
